What People Are Saying

I was happy that I got my house inspected from Seacliff Home Inspections. He knows his stuff and was very thorough in his job. As a first time home buyer, I felt confident after getting my house inspected. Howard not only found issues in the house but also gave tips on the way to keep the house in good shape. . . At the end, he sent a very professional report highlighting issues, and provided web links to further understand issues found during the home inspection. I would definitely recommend Howard to anyone who is looking for a good home inspector.

Homeowner Tip Of The Day

5 Biggest Home Inspection Mistakes To Avoid

Buying a new home is a very big moment in a person's life and an expensive endeavour to boot. Let's take a look at the biggest home inspection mistakes that you should avoid if you want to save your money and your nerves.

Trying to find the cheapest inspector is not a good tactic. In fact, a cheap inspector will end up costing you more in the long run as he will not be qualified to perform a thorough inspection and chances are he is not going to have a very extensive checklist, nor the capability to notice little details that can lead to major problems. If you hire a home inspector who can do a good job, but decide that you can live with some structural issues as long as they lower the price, you will end up living in a death trap and money vacuum of a house. Have the little problems fixed, but if there are too many problems, just look elsewhere.

Thermal Imaging

Thermal Imaging Seacliff Inspections is able to offer clients the ability to see "more then what the naked eye can see". Thermal imaging cameras, also known as infrared cameras, are able to detect very small differences in temperature. This gives us the ability to "see" behind drywall, above ceilings and the framing around windows and doors. We are able to then take a picture of the area in question and highlight the various defects not normally visible to the naked eye. Move your cursor over the picture to the right to see how the room normally looks.

Mold Check

Molds are microscopic fungi. Molds come from the same family that includes mushrooms and yeasts. Molds grow and reproduce quickly. Some molds can be useful - penicillin comes from one type of mold, and other types of mold are used in the manufacture of foods and beverages.

Molds can also be destructive, causing significant damage to many materials, such as paper, cardboard and fabrics.

Mold can affect your health and your family's health. Health experts say that molds can cause allergic reactions, such as sneezing and watery eyes. More serious illnesses can occur depending on the type of mold, the amount and degree of exposure and the health condition of a home's occupants.

Seacliff Inspections performs a visual mold examination of the property with every home inspection.

Radon In Your Home

radon periodic table Radon is a colourless, tasteless and odourless gas that can seep undetected into your home and emit ionizing radiation which can cause lung cancer. Protect your family by testing your home for radon.

What Is Radon?
Radon is a radioactive gas found naturally in the environment. It is produced naturally by the breakdown of uranium in the soil, rock and water. As a gas, radon can move freely through the soil enabling it to escape to the atmosphere or seep into buildings. Since radon can't be seen, smelled, or tasted, it can get into your home undetected.

In outdoor air, radon is diluted to such low concentrations that it is not a concern. But in confined spaces like your house, radon can build up to high levels and pose a health risk. Radon levels are generally highest in basements and crawl spaces because these areas are nearest to the source and are usually poorly ventilated.
